Beaufort Maritime Museum Juniors

I’ve had the following correspondence with the program director of the Junior’s program in Beaufort. Copying it here for discussion straight out of my email.

One certain consideration for adding this to the schedule is the timing is so close to the Manteo event and that makes a pretty busy couple weeks for our little sailors. Here is the link to the schedule as it stands right now.

Sure

We have 6 Club 420s and 20 Optis

It’s such a long distance for us, the full week is probably out of scope for our juniors. But, could our Hatteras Community Sailing club members register for the hoop and pole regatta and where/how would we register?

Would you possibly be interested in planning a scrimmage style team racing event on one of the days during regatta week? Maybe where we could scrimmage your juniors against ours in a team racing event?

Regatta Week

A Regatta Week Session will meet for one week from 12:30 PM until 5 PM beginning on August 9, finishing up on Friday, August 13 with participation in the Hoop Pole Regatta. Participant must have prior sailing experience. Club 420 participants must weigh at least 100 pounds.

The purpose of this session is to gain greater familiarity with the boats (Optimist Prams and Club 420s) and to prepare for and race in a regatta. Registration, lunch and dinner on Friday are included in the $300 Regatta Week fee.

All sailing will take place at Gallants Channel and spectators are encouraged at the regatta on that Friday.

Brent,

Can we get some details on your regatta week? Could our sailors participate?

Hi Brent,

I am reaching out from the Hatteras Community Sailing program (HatterasSailing.org).

Our juniors are interested in doing some regional regatta. We have Opti class and 420 class sailors.

I was looking for a NOR on the regatta you mentioned in the junior sailing handbook. Is that regatta open to other clubs?

We’re pretty small and just getting started. Hoping we can find some regatta opportunities.

Thank you,

Meg Phillips
