Proposal for Membership Fee Revisions

I propose we increase membership fees and registration fees for future starting July 1. Costs are skyrocketing because of inflation and gas prices. There is a lot of added value with the new coaching staff, but with added cost. While a few people are volunteering here and there to help out with things, there is no where near enough help running things from members and very little motivation, it seems, to help out much… which is not sustainable. Here are my suggestions

  1. Yearly membership is set to $500 with an option to pay this in 6 monthly payments if a cc is given.
  2. This membership is discounted to $200 for those who are elected to a Board of Directors position or who seriously take a Committee chairmanship
  3. Youth Fees increase for locals to $150 per child for members and $300 per child for non members
  4. Youth and Adult Member Code of Conduct is signed by members.
  5. There is a Parents meeting once per session that should be organized to be enjoyable, but is mandatory.
  6. Members will get discounts of 15% – 50% on various services and products offered by Hatteras Sailing, such as Cape Explorers Camp, Private Coaching, Boat Rentals, Big Boat Charters, Regatta registrations and addons.
  7. If Members do not pay for something within 30 days, their membership is suspended until caught up. Meaning that discounts are temporarily suspended.
  8. Racing Teams have additional costs related to travel and additional days of coaching, to be determined.
  9. Rental Boats require a security deposit and liability waiver, based on the cost of the boat.
  10. Youth over 12 years old can earn their $150 registration fee by working for the club 5 hours per week during their session helping clean and fix boats, clean and organize yard, etc.
  11. Racing Teams should create and execute a fundraising event each session for one major expense, like jerseys, pfd’s, sails, dry suits, etc. – suggestions: charge for parking for Pops customers; car wash; raffle; sponsors for races; etc.

Even with all of this, we are still within a reasonable fee structure and much less than older existing sailing organizations around the Country.
