Beginner Sailing Camp

AUG 22-26, 2022; 9-1 M-F

During learn to sail camp, each day we will progress our skills with the goal of learning basic boat handling by the last day of camp. This camp is for 7-11 year olds up to 90lbs. We will learn in an Optimist. Each day, we will level up on the prior day’s learning in a focused week of learning basic boat handling built atop an introduction to theoretical sailing terms and concepts:
  • wind indicators, rigging, terminology, points of sail
  • posture & line handling
  • double-handed sailing
  • trim double handed; steer double handed
  • steer without a sail
  • put it all together on the final day
Regardless of the wind, we should be able to find a protected and nice area to learn basic beginner sailing. (minimum of 3; Max of 6 sailors).

Registration Form

After you’ve completed the registration purchase, please submit this registration form giving us more details about your sailor. Scholarships are available for any local Hatteras Island resident who need a little help with registration. Just fill in the form here so that your spot is reserved (please make a note in the more information that a scholarship is needed). We will take care of the rest.

NOTE: Your child will not need any special gear other than a pair of water shoes or boots to protect feet from oyster shell cuts. The club supplies boats, lifejackets, etc. If your child chooses to sail in the Fall Regatta, that registration fee is separate to the regular sailing registration
