Boating Access

Hatteras Sailing has a 14 foot wide boat ramp with deep water access to the Pamlico Sound, in the most protected area of the Sound. Much less traffic than Hatteras Village and deeper and easier to navigate waters than the shoaly and super busy current ridden waters around the inlets. During designated times of the day the boat ramp is open for membership to get their boats in and out of the water. With advance notice you can access dock slips to keep your boat in the water for the week. Our staff will help you get in and out of the water, including fresh water rinse and flush of your engine.

Safety is our Primary Concern !

For those that dont live and sail these waters daily, it can be intimidating. We have local knowlege and navigation clinics to help you understand where and where not to take your vessel. We have options for you to leave a float plan and even the ability to put a tracking device on your vessel in case you dont get back on time… someone will notice that you are not back safe. If you are a bit rusty, we have highly experienced captains and instructors

Running aground happens sometimes, don’t fret.

Hatteras Sailing has high speed 18 foot safety vessels that can come and help you if you are lightly aground. If its a harder task, we have a 46 foot Commercial Towing Vessel with big pulling capacity. Towing is not free with membership, but its a bunch cheaper than calling Sea Tow or Boat US if your not a member, plus it is Hatteras Island and there are not a lot of Towing Companies around here.

As a US SAILING acreditted Sailing School and Community Sailing Program, we offer all kinds of maritime training. You can join a class or book an instructor of private instruction on your own boat. We offer training and fun camps and for all ages, some long seasonal year round for locals and some 3 – 5 half day formats for visiting families

Don’t forget the little stuff!

Hatteras Sailing is working on deals for rental equipment from local watersports vendors, such as kayaks, paddleboards, kiteboarding gear, and snorkel stuff. We have crabbing, clamming and fishing gear on hand for a small fee. This year with your membership help, we also plan to add an Icemaker !

What if I dont have my own boat?

Not a problem. We have 5 Captained Charter Vessels on hand as well as a small fleet of rental boats. We probably have something for you to get out on the water. We do a one time orientation and checkout to be sure you will be safe and know where to go, then you are on your own for the rest of the year once we stamp your membership as completing the checkout!

Members get fixed discounts and special offers on lessons, charters, tours, camps, retail merchandise, regatta registrations, clinics, classes and dockage !

I have a boat but no one to join me!

The social opportunities at a Boating Club are there to help you find some friends to go with you on your boat. There are always folks ready for a free boat ride. Maybe even some will pitch in on the fuel expenses! Come socialize at our weekly tent socials, movie nights and per person member cruise nights ! Its the best way to find more friends with mutual interests.

By participating you are giving your potential bookings more reason to rent from you. The 2025 Season looks to be highly competitive.
