If you LOVE THE WATER and BOATS ! You need to at least check it out !
Competitive Team Sailing is one of the most challenging mental and physical sports. There are 2 team members on a boat. The boats are fast when the wind is up and they can flip over on windy days really easy, so it is exciting. Competitions have racecourses that sail windward and leeward with as many as 30 – 60 other boats at the start line. High School Performance Sailing is something that will greatly heighten your critical thinking, tactical and strategic skills, social skills and athletic ability. Its a great sport that is way under rated but highly appropriate if you live near the water like everyone does in Dare County!
There is no limit! Sailing is a life skill that you take with you forever!
Once you get through the learning curve a bit, sailing can be one of the most rewarding sports available. Not only do you get to play on boats with your friends, you become the eye candy for over 300 collegiate recruiters/coaches. Unlike Football, Baseball and other mainstream sports, there are very few kids for the colleges to recruit from and you can be sure that the big name ivy league schools dont like to lose! So their coaches have a big influence on admissions. If you are thinking about College, University, or Academy, sailing is one of the very best unique ways to help open those doors! High School Sailors become the top picks for all competitive sailing venues and learn the skills necessary to be the very best sailors in the World. If you are ambitious and talented at this, you can do the Olympics, Americas Cup, and numerous other astounding opportunities. The best sailors Worldwide come from Junior Sailing Programs.
High Safety Standards, US SAILING Ceritified Coaches, and great sailing grounds
There is no better place to learn on the water than the Outer Banks! We have so much water and great wind conditions. Our Facility is a US SAILING Acreditted Sailing Center and our Coaches are US SAILING Certified and Trained in CPR, Safesport, Powerboat, Sailing and more. We have a perfect safety record. We also have all the right equipment to effectively teach and coach you to success on the racecourse. This is not a shabby program, our Sailing Center in Buxton has $500,000 in sail and powerboat training assets! While there is always a learning curve, kids who started a few years back or in our Opti Training program are doing respectably against century old and well funded yacht club programs. The Wind and the Waves level the playing field alot!
Program Participation Cost
Sailing is by no means inexpensive. Its is more affordable if the costs are split more ways. So the more kids that join the team, the lower the cost becomes. We do apply for grant funding and any fundraising we can do through sponsors, donations, or even bake sales helps keep the cost low. Right now the participation cost is $600 per youth. We are able to bill this all at once, or break it into 2 payments. We do often have members of the community and community business owners who will donate money to sponsor kids participation fees, but its not guaranteed. We also need help with the boats and the facility and allow kids to put in some sweat equity, and earn the participation funds. In general we hate to let money stand in the way of anyone having a chance to participate in the program, so dont let the cost be an issue. Travel costs are not included in this fee, so if your child qualifies and wants to participate in the away game regattas, the cost of accomodations and food are a consideration as well. Traveling is not required expecially for kids trying to get up to speed and through the learning curve!
