Having a 4:1 purchase gives sailors extra mechanical advantage to trim harder in higher winds with less strength. This system allows the sailor to quickly respond to changing conditions increasing mechanical advantage easily underway. The higher quality tapered mainsheet is softer on the sailor’s hands and less likely to get tangled and twisted causing the sailor to lose control in a gust.

This ultimate Optimist mainsheet is tapered and made of abrasion resistant PES material. It’s 7 meter long and tapered from 9.0 to 6.5 mm. Thick and soft where it touches your hand. Thin and smooth elsewhere for free running control. Tapered on both ends. Long enough to create a 4:1 Optimist mainsheet with 2 boom blocks.
Line structure is approximately:
- 2.0 meter: 6.5 mm
- 2.0 meter: 9.0 mm
- 3.0 meter: 6.5 mm
