Winter 2022 Events Considerations
Hatteras Community Sailing is looking at the following possible activities for the colder months of the season this year, between January and April. If you have any ideas that you think would be fun and draw additional community involvement and awareness of our sailing programs, please let us know!
- USCG Station Hatteras Tour – Meet USCG Station Hatteras, USCG Aux, and learn about their history and mission here on Cape Hatteras.
- Commercial Fishing – Meet local commercial fishermen and learn about the profession that long been an essential part of Hatteras Island and the Outer Banks.
- Sail Making – Learn about the Art of Sailmaking from Coach Jay, who was a previous franchise owner of North Sails BVI and Quantum Sails Caribbean.
- Tour the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum – Group trip to the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. Learn about the Museum and history of shipwrecks, focusing on SAILING SHIPS, and their role in settling of the Outer Banks.
- Hatteras Ocean Rescue Tour – Meet the folks at the Buxton Ocean Rescue Squad and learn about their mission for public safety on the treacherous coast of Cape Hatteras. Introduction to RIP Currents and Ocean Safety Issues that every Hatteras Island Resident should be knowledgeable of!
- National Parks Service Tour – Meet at Hatteras Lighthouse and learn about the history of the lighthouse and Park Service Mission here on Hatteras Island.
- Introduction to Boat Building – Take a peak at the new pH850 Catamaran build happening in Avon. See how boat designs are created using CAD (Computer Aided Design) and then made into a reality on the shop floor.
- Composites Workshop – Learn about different types of composite materials and make a composite part in the boatshop using advance Vacuum Infusion of epoxy over Corecell.
- Natural Resources – Meet with Natural Resources Enforcement Officers and learn about the different fishing and hunter rules and regulations on Hatteras Island.
- Ocean Sports Expo! – Hatteras Island and the Outer Banks are at the Core of Exciting Watersports on the Eastern Atlantic Seaboard. Meet with Professional Surfers, Shop Owners, Kiteboarders, Fishing, SUP and Windsurfing experts here on Hatteras Island. If you love living on Hatteras Island and want to learn how these professionals figured out how to make a living doing what they love, this is the place.
