Basic Keelboat Training
Learn to Sail! Our philosophy is to teach on the best sailboats with the best instructors! On great boats, there is more to learn and the boat is so much more responsive to your adjustments, so you can immediately see the outcomes of your actions. Our Basic Keelboat Program is in a 3 day or 5 day format and it is ideal to have 4 – 6 students at a time in the class, but not mandatory. Cape Hatteras National Seashore is awesome and full of fun activities for everyone if watersports are what your looking for! Book a class for yourself or for your whole family! If its just you, the rest of your group can do the beach, fishing, surf camps, kiteboarding, wingboarding, SUP, and more while you are focusing on your sailing course! Hatteras is a natural wonder of the mid Atlantic Seaboard where the currents have formed our point, which juts out into the Atlantic further than any other feature on the East Coast, which makes for better wind, better waves, better fishing and better sailing and watersports than anywhere else!
There is a minimum number of students needed per class. Alternately if the minimum number of students is not possible there is simply a baseline cost for the class (boat and instructor costs have to be covered). In this class you will start with the basics and spend a lot of time on the water practicing the most proven and practiced techniques to launch your journey into the world of sailing right!
Intro to Keelboat Racing
Are you interested in Competitive Sailing and always wanted to crew on exciting race boats!? We can definitely help you launch that dream and make it a reality. This Introductory Program is for sailors or want to be sailors looking for crew opportunities on racing boats. The Melges 24 is one of the most competitive and exciting performance platforms to sail aboard! After 30 years of racing experience in the Caribbean, Chesapeake, Florida and New England, Coach Jay can impart to you the proven skills, techniques, and knowlege to get you going in Competitive Sailing. We not only teach it, but we also still actively do it all the time! We are non stop teaching all ages — from 6 years old on Optimists, High School and College racing on 420’s, Keelboat Racing on the Melges and Sabre 42 and more. Additionally we will be offering crew opportunities on the Melges as we travel it to Regattas in the Chesapeake, Charleston, and Florida yearly events like the Southern Bay Race Week, Bacardi Cup, Charleston Race Week, and more. Our standard Intro to Racing Program is a 3 day or 5 day program. A minimum of 4 are needed on board. We break the syllabus into managable and essential sections for you to be successful in your future endeavors on the racecoarse.
Customized Coaching Clinics
Maybe there is a specific area where you and/or your crew want to focus and learn to perform better! We can customize a program just for you. Whether it be Upwind Sailing, Spinnaker Sailing, Starts, Match Racing, Heavy Wind Sailing, Ocean Racing, just let us know and we will put together a training clinic to meet your needs. We can offer this on exciting boats like the Melges 24, Sabre 42, or any of our dingy and centerboard class boats (Flying Scot or 420) We can also do match and team racing one design catamaran clinics on the Stiletto 27s, if you are just looking for something fun, relaxing and different.
