Fundraising Pathways

  1. Registration Checkin. – The person doing this should have immediate access to what the participants signed up for and paid for. There should be a Racer Checking Welcome Bag ( This needs to be a gift bag of nifty sponsored items from community businesses that want to promote themselves, like bumper stickers, lip balm, gift certificates for pastries and coffee, and anything else promotional we want to distribute to contestants. This needs to be thought out and optimized). If checkins did not register for surf camp, yoga, shirts, mugs and meals, then this is the time to remind them about the regatta amenities and make an attempt to get them all, each family member signed up and activities paid for….. i.e. upsell time. A things to do promo should be given to each family, so that those not racing can enjoy the island. An explanation of available Campground Ammenities. Anything from Spring Fest about their events and entertainment.
  2. Surf Camp – Morgan is discounting us the Surf Camp. We need to sell this!!!!! We make money for the program on the registration fees for this abbreviated camp on Saturday Morning.
  3. Sponsor for the Beer and Bottomless Pints! – If we can get a sponsor for this it would be a nice fundraiser. If people want to drink alcoholic beverages, this is the purchase mechanism for being able to do so. This is for Regatta Participants and Spring Fest Participants. Maybe Kill Devil Rum?
  4. Dinner Tickets for the Fish Fry. The idea this year was to offer some local Hatteras Seafood and maybe make it a promotion for the local Commercial Fishing Industry featuring Shrimp, Fish, Hatteras Clam Chowder, and any other local cuisine. If we can get the fish sponsored and club members to bring pot luck dishes, the entire revenue from the dinner could be profitable for the club programs.
  5. Regatta Photography. This can be a fundraising channel. Drone and Still imagery taken during the event can be offered for a reasonable price! Posted online and accessed via a custom discount code to those who pay for access to the imagery. Promotion of future events is dependent on great photography and videography of the event and participants.

Regatta Mission. The marketing mission of this regatta is to grow it into a major Annual Event on Cape Hatteras! This is done by making it a fun and memorable event. This is achieved through sensible, fun and innovative racing schedules; good accommodations and atmosphere at the event; fun for kids and family not participating in the racing; spectator opportunities on guest boats; good press followup and coverage of the event; great food and last but not least, nice awards for the participants that they will proudly display forever in their homes and local yacht clubs. This is intended not only as a fundraiser for Hatteras Sailing, but also the local community and businesses! This year we anticipate meeting our goal of 50 participants, plus their family members. By year 3-4 of these Annual Spring and Fall shoulder season events, we should shoot for 100-200 registered sailors; up to about 6-10 registered One Design Classes including of course the Opti, 420, Hobie, etc. but striving to get some adult classes involved that kids can sail with parents as well, such as Snipe, Laser, Sunfish, Hobie 16, Hampton One Design, Lightning, Melges 15, Vangaurd 15, 505, Moth, and even Sailboarding Classes and Kiteboarding Classes. In Tortola, the HIHO Regatta was promoted and built into a major yearly event for windsurfing! We can do this as well as a destination resort area, which will be complimentary to the community and local business revenues! Selling the Regatta Swag becomes a major year round revenue channel once some traction is achieved. International Brand Sponsorships also start becoming part of the equation as the numbers and regional recognition grow. This is what these Annual Events are intended to become and can become with your help! Plus they are a lot of fun for the kids and families involved !!!!! A great chance to meet and make new friends in the sailing community on the East Coast!
